Colavita Stars

The Colavita Stars are advertised as “pastina” on the site which they are not pastina. They are 4 times the size in shape so if you are purchasing for a baby or small child, just be aware that they are NOT pastina. I purchased 5 bags and gave them all away.

The word Pastina derives from the Italian word Pasta. Any very small cut of pasta in Italian is called Pastina (small pasta) and so are these Stelline.
Unfortunately, some companies have decided to call a very specific cut of small pasta, Pastina (Ronzoni and Barilla). They are not incorrect in the naming of their product but the name Pastina should not be used exclusively only for that pasta cut.

I couldn't resist buying a few bags of Stelline with my Pastina order. This is better than Ronzoni could ever have been (I haven't had Ronzoni pasta since I was a kid in the 80s when it was almost all you could find).
